Citroen has increased its C4 offering Down Under with an addition to the compact hatch/coupe range -- a 1.6-litre turbodiesel.
The 80kW Citroen C4 HDi is available in hatchback form only and is official on sale now from $29,990
The C4 HDi is powered by what the French marque claims is its newest diesel powerplant. The 1.6-litre DOHC common-rail ultra-high-pressure (1650bar) injection four-cylinder engine features a variable displacement turbocharger and uses an overboost function to provide extra torque under acceleration.
The engine claims the same 80kW as its 1.6-litre petrol equivalent, however, maximum torque is well up -- 240Nm (260Nm on overboost) versus 147.
Citroen claims fuel consumption of 4.7lt/100km over the standard combined cycle with open road stats bettering 4.0lt/100km -- over 70mpg! With a 60lt tank that translates to a theoretical range approaching 1500km!
The HDi shares its equipment package with the C4 1.6 hatch as well as ANCAP five-star crash rating. ABS, ESP, speed sensitive power steering, alloy Wheels, front fog lights, power windows and central locking are all standard.
According to local Citroen boss, Miles Williams, the marque's target for the C4 HDi is initially around 15 to 20 per cent of C4 sales. In the longer term Citroën expects the HDi to become the most popular C4 version.
