Citroen C4 Cactus to go all-electric

Next Citroen C4 Cactus will be battery-powered and the French brand’s new style leader

The next-generation Citroen C4 Cactus that arrives in 2020 will come with the French car-maker's new pure-electric powertrain, according to Brit mag Auto Express.

The switch will be made possible by the small SUV’s migration to the PSA Group's latest Compact Modular Platform (CMP), which has been designed, developed and engineered for both internal combustion engines and pure-electric power.

According to sources, the 2020 Citroen C4 Cactus – and other future Citroen models, including a belated replacement for the C6 large sedan -- will be directly inspired by the CXPERIENCE concept (pictured) that was unveiled at the 2016 Paris motor show.

As well as the battery-electric replacement for its quirky C4 Cactus, Citroen is readying two concepts to celebrate 100 years of car-making.

The first, which will be revealed in March at the Geneva motor show, is said to retain the "spirit of the 2CV" and was teased over the weekend by what looks like a fabric door pull.

Created for urban dwellers, Citroen has confirmed it will have pure-electric power, possibly previewing the next C4 Cactus production car's powertrain.

The second concept, to be unveiled in April at the Shanghai motor show, appears to have a high-tech sensor on top of its roof, potentially hinting at a fully autonomous concept with advanced technology.
