Citroën creates funky glasses to help prevent car motion sickness
The long-awaited summer holidays are just around the corner which means great weather, road trips and the dreaded car sickness...So you find yourself as a passenger in the car on the way down to the coast watching your favourite Netflix show on your phone. Before you know it, BAM, you’re hit by car motion sickness. Yuck! One in three people experience motion sickness symptoms at least once in their life so you’re not alone.
Not to fear though, quirky French car brand Citroën has created the SEETROËN, the first glasses designed to eliminate motion sickness. The idea behind the SEETROËN glasses is quite simple and we don’t know how anyone else didn’t think of it already. These fun looking glasses are filled with moving liquid in the rings around the eyes, both along the frontal axis and sagittal axis (side of head) recreating the horizon line which works to resolve conflict between the senses.
Initially developed for sailors, Citroën decided to extend the SEETROËN glasses to the general public which can be used on most forms of transport including boats, cars, buses and even planes.
So how do you use these funky looking glasses to alleviate motion sickness on your next trip?
- Put on the glasses as soon as you experience the initial symptoms of motion sickness
- After 10 to 12 minutes, the glasses enable the mind to re-synchronise with the movement perceived by the inner ear while the eyes were focused on an immobile object such as a smartphone or a book
- Take the glasses off and enjoy the rest of your journey
The SEETROËN glasses have no lenses so they can be shared by all the crew on your journey who are over the age of 10 (which is when the inner ear has finished forming).
