For the first time in Australia, French car maker Citroën will offer a petrol-powered C5 sedan. Citroën Australia says that it will offer the new C5 petrol model priced at $45,990 drive-away... but there is a catch. The petrol model is be billed as a limited time only offer because the engine has already been discountinued in Europe.
But the main reason for the introduction of the new model is due to the strength of the Aussie dollar versus the Euro, which has allowed the local importer to settle upon a competitive price.
"When we launched the new Citroën C5 we took the decision to go all-diesel because weakness of the Australian dollar meant that the price advantage of a petrol engine was outweighed by significant advantages of the diesel engines," explains Miles Williams, General Manager of Citroën Australia.
"But with the reversal of fortunes for the dollar and the Euro, there is now a significant price advantage for a 2.0-litre 103 kW petrol version of the new C5 and this has enabled us to add it to the Australian range," he adds. "But it is an offer that has a definite shelf life. This powertrain will cease to be available to us this year, so this value for money version of the C5 will only be available for the first half of 2010."
