Citroën has announced pricing for its funky new DS3 model, a car it says will redefine the small prestige luxury car segment.
The DS3 represents the first in a new model line for the French brand. The maker says the DS line-up will eventually expand to cover popular sedan segments. Following the DS3, both DS4 and DS5 models will be launched in 2011 and 2012 respectively.
Distinctively styled, the DS3 is engineered to meet the needs of even the most demanding drivers, Citroën says. Signature design elements include a distinctive 'Shark Fin' B-pillar, 'floating' roof and vertical LED daytime running lamps set on the outboard edge of the front bumper.
"The DS3 is a bold, definitive statement of intent for Citroën and a confident step in the opposite direction to its main competitors; it brings a real alternative to a market sector dominated by retro designs. DS3 is about modernity, creativity, individual style and a driving experience packed with personality," said Citroën Australia's general manager, Miles Williams.
"DS3 dares to be different - whilst delivering the comfort, quality, technology and ecologically considerate performance for which Citroën is widely recognised.
"The DS3 is fresh, modern and totally in tune with the times, not harking back to a supposed past golden age, and this means it can use all the latest technology to best advantage without being restrained by a design ethos from a previous era."
Inside, Citroën has used high quality materials to reflect its new design direction. A high level of personalisation available not only within the cabin, but also on the outisde with paint, wheels, roof, trim and equipment – even the key fob – able to be tailored to the driver's individual taste.
With a spacious interior and 60:40 split-fold rear seats extending the already generous 285-litre boot, DS3 also combines a strong feature list with the latest safety equipment.
Meanwhile, under the bonnet, the Citroën DS3 is available with two variants of the same 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, an 88kW version for the entry-level DS3 DStyle model and turbocharged 115kW DS3 DSport. A four-speed automatic and six-speed manual transmission are offered on each model respectively.
The Citroën DS3 goes on sale locally from September 18.
