Classic Americans at Brisbane auction

A Stutz and an Auburn will be up for auction at Shannons' Brisbane Motor Show event

They were names that epitomised the Roaring Twenties, but their glamour faded during the years between the Great Depression and World War II.

The stock market crash of 1929 pretty much killed Stutz. Auburn dragged on as part of the Auburn, Duesenberg and Cord triumvirate until 1937.

Now, bidders at Shannons Brisbane Motor Show auction have the opportunity to take home a 1928 Stutz BB Sports Tourer or a 1927 Auburn 8-88 Open Tourer -- both cars that recalled the extravagant times when big American cars were the last word in style and luxury.

The Auburn 8-88 with seven seats is one of only 19 units built in that specification -- so it's rare even by Auburn standards -- and, in the seventy years since it was built, has known just two owners. Shannons estimates the Auburn will fetch between $70-90,000.

Fitted with a Weymann-style fabric body, the Stutz BB is a former concours-winner and Shannons has suggested it is likely to sell for around $100,000.

In addition to these two, other cars set to pass under the hammer at the auction include a 1953 FJ Holden Special (pictured), a Valiant Charger R/T E49 from 1972, a 1970 Dodge Charger R/T 440CID V8, a 1973 Plymouth Barracuda with 340CID V8, A 1968 Shelby Mustang GT500 and a number of other Mustangs.

The auction will take place February 10, 2008.
