Classic Festival of Motor Sport

The largest historic race in the Southern Hemisphere gets underway from March 6
This year’s Phillip Island Classic Festival of Motor Sport will pack even more into one weekend than ever before, boasting a field of almost 500 international cars spanning the last century, all for the same asking price.
Qualifying will now be held on Friday, allowing organisers to pack in up to 25 per cent more racing over the weekend. The programme has been expanded to squeeze in a record 44 events over the Saturday and Sunday and some of these events include Groups A & C Touring, Historic Touring, Formula Ford and Sports Cars & Invited.
Furthermore, this year will see some classic V8 Supercars, from the 1993-2002 era, hitting the track. An expected 30 cars will partake in a demonstration to showcase some truly classic automobiles from Australian history.
Two of these cars include the Wynn’s Racing VT Commodore, which won Bathurst in 1999, and ex-Dick Johnson Racing AUII Shell-Helix Falcon, which finished second at Mount Panorama in 2000, both still wearing their authentic and original race liveries.
This year also marks the 25th Anniversary of the event, and the competition has been recognised as one of the preeminent historic races in the world, with nominations in the International Historic Motoring Awards three years running.
All this adds up to what should be the most feature-packed and eventful Classic Festival of Motor Sports yet.
