Technicalities in meeting Australian Design Rules saw Morgan withdraw from sale at the end of 2006. The issue recently resolved, Morgan has now returned Down Under with deposit-paid customers relieved to receive priority shipment after over three years on the waiting list.
In total seven cars will land in Australia before the end of the year, and with the Aussie dollar so strong, prices on some models are now almost $20,000 cheaper than they were the last time Morgan models were sold here.
Current customers have three Ford-powered models to choose from, including two variants of the esteemed Morgan Roadster (Roadster and Roadster Sport).
Additionally, Morgan's flagship model, the Aero SuperSports, will be sold in extremely limited numbers with four examples available in Australia before 2011. The Aero SuperSports is powered by a 4.8-litre BMW V8 engine, and in total, only 175 examples will ever be produced.
Celebrating its 101st year, the family-owned Morgan Motor Company is set to produce a record number of vehicles before year's end. And although volume has never been an objective of the historic manufacturer, around 800 cars are expected to roll off the production line by Christmas.
Morgan will soon expand production to also include the recently announced EvaGT four-seat coupe. The sporty model will be powered by a BMW-sourced 3.0-litre turbocharged six-cylinder engine. Morgan says the shapely model will "open a new market for the brand while still delivering a rewarding and classical driving experience".
Production of the new Morgan EvaGT will commence in mid-2012.
