Classic Outback Trial to recall Redex rallies
Shift to NSW for 2020 running of biennial rally will provide a taste of the good old daysThe Classic Outback Trial for 2020 will return to New South Wales following two events centred around Alice Springs in 2016 and 2018.
Event Director Philip Bernadou made the announcement last month and in a press release issued last week the organisers drew parallels with the excitement of the Redex reliability trials from the 1950s.
"To rally people, the spirit of the old Round Australia trials that began with the REDeX Trial in 1953, lives on, but the practicalities of modern life mean that people can no longer afford to spend three weeks away from work and families driving around Australia," the press release read.
"In contrast, the Classic Outback Trial offers an opportunity to relive the legendary adventures of the REDex, Ampol, Mobil and Repco trials in a realistic time frame.
"The 2020 Classic Outback Trial will run for seven days, starting at Parkes in central NSW on 8 August, before finishing in Australia’s motor sport capital of Bathurst on 15 August."
Teams will compete in four categories – Classic, Modern, Regularity and Tagalong – and the field will be limited to 60 cars. The Regularity class will be restricted to cars that are not fitted with full CAMS-approved safety equipment, and the Tagalong tour is for standard SUVs. To date, 27 entries have already been received.
