A rare 1950s XK 140 Jaguar coupe is to go under the hammer at the Shannons Spring Auction that will take place in Sydney on November 9 this year.
Bearing the twin-camshaft six-cylinder XK engine that, in numerous iterations, powered Jaguars such as the D-Type racer and various E-Types over decades, the Old English White XK 140 3.4-litre coupe has been in the hands of its current owner for around 30 years.
The body and interior were restored about 15 years ago while, at the same time, the engine was rebuilt and the brakes were upgraded with Jaguar Mark 9 front discs.
The "no reserve" XK 140 has covered only around 1000 miles since the restoration and is expected to bring between $80,000 and $90,000 at auction – although that could be on the conservative side as a similar XK 140 coupe brought $125,000 at the Shannons Spring Auction in Melbourne recently.
Also XK-engined is a four-speed manual-transmission 4.2-litre E-Type coupe delivered new through Brysons Sydney in September 1965 and cared for by two "fastidious" owners over the last 30 years.
Although originally finished in opalescent sand beige with light tan leather trim, the E-Type has been re-painted in dark blue and has recently been treated to "major" work on the engine, clutch, brakes and rear suspension.
The "superb" E-Type comes with a certificate of authenticity from the Jaguar Heritage Trust and is expected to sell in a range between $100,000 and $130,000 at the Shannons Sydney Spring Auction.
The famous six-cylinder Jaguar engine is also under the bonnet of another no-reserve classic that will go on sale at the Spring Auction: A "beautifully-presented" Sage Green 1984 XJ6 Series III saloon with a tan leather interior that should bring between $10,000 and $14,000.
