MG Australia has taken the covers off the latest model to join its growing model line-up, the 2021 MG ZST.
Based on its second best seller, the MG ZS small SUV, the MG ZST will be available from mid-September, packed with a range of fresh tech and a more powerful new 115kW/230Nm 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine.
That’s around a 40 per cent increase in power over the 82kW 1.0-litre three-cylinder and 84kW 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engines currently offered in the Chinese car-maker’s existing ZS. Combined fuel consumption is listed at 7.1L/100km.
Two trim grades will be offered – the entry-level Excite (priced from $28,490 plus ORCs) and the top-spec Essence ($31,490 plus ORCs) – both powered by the new turbo-triple, paired to a six-speed Aisin automatic transmission sending power to the front wheels.
The MG ZST is distinguished by dark chrome exterior accents and 17-inch two-tone alloy wheels, as well as revised front and rear bumpers, a new grille, red brake callipers and LED headlights and tail-lights.
Inside, additions include a 10.1-inch infotainment unit offers Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Bluetooth connectivity, leather-appointed interior, keyless entry and no fewer than five USB outlets – one built into the rear-view mirror for a dashcam, two up front and two for rear-seat passengers.
Flagship Essence variants also come with a fully digital 7.0-inch instrument cluster, a large panoramic sunroof and heated front seats with electric adjustments for the driver.
Naturally, the MG Pilot suite of driver assistance features is also present in the new ZST, including autonomous emergency braking (AEB), a 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, traffic jam assist, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert and intelligent headlight control.
MG says luggage and cabin space has also been improved thanks to a 9mm longer body compared to the ZS SUV it’s based on.
Boot capacity is also among the best-in-class, according to MG, with 389 litres of space when the rear seats are in use and 1187 with the rear seats folded.
Body stiffness and rigidity has also seen a 50 per cent improvement (over the ZS SUV), according to MG.
Colour options available at no extra cost include York White and Pebble Black, while three metallic paint options can be chosen for $500 extra, including Brighton Blue, Diamond Red and Sterling Silver.
Of course, MG’s newest compact SUV will be backed by the brand’s generous seven-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty with roadside assistance.
