LDV Australia has officially entered the hero ute market with its new 2024 LDV T60 Max Plus, which introduces a heap of cosmetic, interior and chassis enhancements over the standard T60 Max grades, headlined by the inclusion of a coil-spring rear suspension set-up.
The T60 Max Plus will be available in three flavours: manual ($45,990 drive-away for ABN holders), automatic ($47,990) and Mega Tub ($49,490) – all boasting a 70-80kg payload increase over the lesser leaf-sprung Luxe variants.
The official Plus payloads are as follows: 840kg for the manual, 830kg for the auto and 800kg for the Mega Tub, compared to 750kg for the standard Luxe variants and 730kg for the Mega Tub.
None of these figures really compare to the top-spec Nissan Navara Pro-4X, which can carry more than 1000kg in its tray, however, they are competitive with the flagship GWM Ute Cannon XSR (835kg) – though the GWM is pitched as more of a capable off-roader than luxury workhorse.
To that end, the LDV’s standard equipment list is packed full of niceties including a 12.3-inch infotainment system, matching 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, lockable tailgate, extra sound-proofing, heated and power-folding side mirrors and electric power steering and park brake.
However, the automatic versions go quite a bit further with autonomous emergency braking (AEB), adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, wireless smartphone mirroring, column-mounted gear selector and a wireless smartphone charging pad.
Gear shared with the Luxe, meantime, includes paddle shifters, keyless entry and start, heated and power-adjustable front seats, leather upholstery, an automatically-locking rear differential and auto-dimming rear-view mirror.
Drive is provided by a remapped version of LDV’s segment-leading 160kW/500Nm twin-turbo diesel four-cylinder powertrain, which drives all four wheels via a traditional part-time 4x4 system – 2H, 4H and 4L.
LDV says the unique mapping of the Plus ensures more linear power delivery across the range but doesn’t liberate any extra firepower, while the load-friendly coil-sprung rear-end offers improved ride comfort and body control.
Transmissions, meantime, comprise either a six-speed manual and eight-speed automatic, with all Plus variants sporting a 3000kg maximum braked towing capacity as per the rest of the T60 Max line-up.
You’ll be able to spot the T60 Max Plus by its unique gloss-black grille, door-handles, door mirror covers, side trim and rear bumper treatments, not to mention the exclusive 18-inch alloys.
