Lamborghini is set to cash in on another low-volume special as company CEO Stephan Winkelmann has confirmed to US publication Car and Driver that the Italian supercar specialist will build nine units of a roadster derivative of the extreme Veneno coupe (pictured) that was revealed earlier this year at the Geneva motor show.
As you’d expect of a low-volume special, the Veneno Roadster will be accompanied by a stratospheric pricetag, with the €3.3 million ask (ex-Europe) representing a 10 per cent premium over its fixed-roof sibling.
But what really makes your eyes water is the fact it costs 11 times as much as the Aventador Roadster from which it’s derived.
Needless to say, it won’t be marketed through conventional showroom channels, but offered to Lambo’s richest and most prized customers.
Despite its wallet-thumping pricetag, the Veneno Roadster retains more or less the same powertrain as the topless Aventador, albeit with the 6.5-litre V12 tweaked to produce 552kW in lieu of the donor car’s 515kW.
The boost in power comes courtesy of bigger intake paths, improved thermodynamics, and a revised exhaust system. Minor mods are also made to the seven-speed single-clutch transmission, all-wheel drive system, and pushrod suspension system.
However, it’s in its jaw-dropping appearance that the Veneno differs most dramatically from its mainstream sibling, as the carbon-fibre bodywork is more jet fighter than hypercar, with its assortment of scoops, winglets and sharp edges making the Aventador look like a shrinking violet by comparison.
The interior is also lathered in carbon-fibre, including the seat frame and the seating surfaces (in a “supple” material dubbed CarbonSkin).
At Geneva the company said all three Venenos coupes would sport grey metallic paint, but that each would feature a different accent colour — red, white, or green – to represent the colours of Italy’s national flag. It remains to be seen whether the same palette strategy will apply to the Veneno Roadster.
