Cool Hyundai Sonata N-Line Shooting Brake and crossover imagined
Fantastic five-door makeovers for Hyundai’s flagship sedan have us wishing they were realEarlier this month we showed you what a next-generation rear-drive turbo-six Mazda6 wagon could look like if Mazda was to greenlight such a project, and now we have another lip-smacking five-door mock-up to show you.
The current-generation Hyundai Sonata is one of the most aggressive and capable mid-size sedans on the market right now, but unlike the Mazda6 and Skoda Octavia, it doesn’t come with the option of a wagon body style.
Well, automotive graphic designer Nikita Chuiko has mocked up what he imagines a Hyundai Sonata N-Line Shooting Brake could look like for Russian outlet Kolesa.ru and, just for good measure, he’s done the same for a high-riding ‘cross-version’.
Starting with the shooting brake, Chuiko has predictably used the facelifted model as the basis for the render and we have to say it looks the part, so much so it could be sexier than the already-tasty sedan.
Maintaining all the key character lines but extending the roofline all the way back, adding rear windows and clapping on a set of roof rails, the rendered five-door body looks so natural on the Sonata you’d almost think the model was designed as a wagon from the outset, at least until you see the back.
This is where the digital alterations become a bit more obvious – particularly across the centre of the tailgate, where we see the sedan’s lip spoiler has been left untouched rather than tweaked.
Still, the rendered vehicle is still striking from just about any angle, and while the crossover version is similarly eye-catching, the ‘fitment’ of black cladding does detract from the menacing look somewhat.
The flipside is that an SUV or crossover version of the Sonata N-Line would more than likely be all-wheel drive, thereby enhancing the vehicle’s already-strong performance and dynamics since the production sedan is front-drive and goes without a limited-slip differential.
