Paul Stokell is a Lamborghini punter of some repute, but he's also the chief instructor at Sherrin MotorSport (more here), an outfit running advanced driver training courses out of a facility at Mount Cotton, in Queensland.
The company's courses prepare drivers for those moments of sheer terror out on the road, the sort of moments that frequently end in fatality. Who hasn't experienced unexpected handling from a car during a swerve-and-avoid manoeuvre?
In the event that a car in front stops suddenly and your own car starts to slide, Stokell poses the question "What you do next could save your life. Do you know what you would do?"
Participants in the courses will learn how to correct understeer and oversteer. The trainers will also take the participants through the appropriate course of action once the car is out of control and how to avoid losing control of the car in the first place.
Each driver will learn in a BMW 120i, but has the option of trying out their own cars on the facility's skidpan.
A course is scheduled for 27 July and the price of entry is $295 per person, including a barbecue dinner and a certificate. The organisers stress that this is not an opportunity to practise drifting.
