The all-new Cupra Tavascan electric SUV has been priced for Australia, with the Spanish brand’s two-variant line-up to start from $60,990 plus on-road costs (ORCs) when pre-orders open this week.
Cupra’s second battery-electric model – a mid-size SUV with close relations to the Volkswagen ID.5, Skoda Enyaq Coupé, and Audi Q4 e-tron Sportback – will sell alongside the Born hatchback EV and will be offered here in Endurance and VZ trim grades.
Pre-orders open this Thursday (February 27, 2025), with the Tavascan Endurance kicking off proceedings from $60,990 (plus ORCs).
The Tavascan Endurance is powered by a single rear-mounted electric motor good for 210kW, while every Tavascan is powered by an 82kWh lithium-ion battery. In Tavascan Endurance form, that’s good for a claimed driving range of 534km.
Standard features include 19-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights with triangular daytime running lights (DRLs), illuminated Cupra badging at either end, powered tailgate, tri-zone climate control, and a 15-inch touch-screen within the cabin.
Other tech includes wireless phone charging, lane assist, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, autonomous emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian and cyclist detection, side assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and front and rear parking sensors.
Meanwhile, the flagship Tavascan VZ is priced at $74,990 (plus ORCs) and comes powered by a 250kW/545Nm dual-motor, all-wheel drive set-up that covers the 0-100km/h sprint to a claimed 5.5 seconds, bettering the Endurance grade’s claim of 6.8 seconds.
The Tavascan VZ is good for a claimed 499km from a full battery and gets larger 21-inch wheels, Matrix LED headlights with adaptive high beams, and a fixed panoramic glass roof with electric sunblind.
A $4500 Interior Package can be added to the Endurance grade, bringing larger 20-inch alloys, a 360-degree camera, powered and heated front seats clad in dark blue microfibre upholstery, illuminated scuff plates, ambient interior lighting, and a 12-speaker Sennheiser sound system.
Opt for the top-spec Tavascan VZ and you get the choice of an Extreme Package ($8000) comprising 21-inch alloy wheels wrapped in grippier performance tyres, a grey Nappa leather interior, and ventilated ‘Cup Racing’ front seats. The Extreme Package is said to arrive in mid-2025.
Two premium paint options include Tavascan Blue and Basalt Grey, each of which add $800. White Silver and Atacama Desert hues are available at no extra cost.
Cupra covers the Tavascan range with a five-year/unlimited kilometre warranty, while the high-voltage battery is covered by a separate eight-year/160,000km warranty.
Services are due every 12 months or 15,000km and a three-year service plan is available for $990.
Cupra Australia boss Ben Wilks says the Tavascan will be a unique addition to the electric mid-size SUV segment.
“It is a statement of intent and commitment from our brand, to ensure that making the switch to electric doesn’t have to be boring – owning a medium SUV can be a design piece and mirror the driver appeal of our highly acclaimed petrol performance range,” he says.
“The Tavascan also embodies our unique position in the market. Cupra is neither mass mainstream, nor luxury – we are about authenticity of design and engineering combined with great value. Until now, this combination hasn’t been found in this segment.”
