The current Ford Mustang is officially sold out in Australia, where Ford’s local division has confirmed via its website that the final allocation of the venerable S550-series muscle car is now spoken for.
That means aspiring customers will now have to wait for the new-generation Mustang to arrive in around 12 months’ time.
“Due to overwhelming interest in the current Mustang, our order bank is now at capacity,” says the Ford Australia public website on its ‘new vehicle availability’ landing page.
“Therefore, we regret to inform customers that we are no longer taking any new orders for the current Mustang.
“Speak to your Dealer about the all-new Mustang, due in Australia from late 2023 or you can stay up-to-date by registering for the All-New Mustang newsletter.”
Customers with lodged but unfulfilled orders have been encouraged to stay in contact with their preferred dealer for updates on their vehicle, with wait times varying on an order-by-order basis.
Demand for the current Mustang has been nothing short of astronomical in recent years and its replacement is anticipated to be even more popular, thanks to its angrier aesthetic, increased performance and other general enhancements.
That demand has resulted in some lengthy delivery times for customers, which were only exacerbated further by a series of production scale-backs, delays and halts.
Production of the new Mustang is widely expected to start in March next year ahead of its official launch as a 2024 model in North America, just as it will here due to its late 2023 arrival.
Fans will still be able to soak up some of that new-car atmosphere via the 2023 Supercars Championship, which will next year shift across to the new Gen3 formula in which the S650 Mustang will do battle with the Chevrolet Camaro.
The Gen3 Mustang Supercar made its public debut at this month’s Repco Bathurst 1000 and was developed by Dick Johnson Racing in collaboration with Ford Performance over the past two years or so.
