The long-departed Daihatsu brand has detailed what it plans to reveal at the Tokyo Auto Salon on January 14, 2022, with one of its big premieres to be a cute tiny campervan.
Sadly, the Daihatsu Atrai Deck Van Camper will be strictly off-limits for Australians following the brand's decision to quit selling cars Down Under back in 2005.
But the latest little camper shows just what we're missing.
Based on the existing Atrai Deck Van ute, the tiny camper gets a neat roof-mounted retractable tent that folds down to a slim orange-painted box that's mounted using an ugly-looking roof rack.
Featuring livery blending bright orange, grey, black and white, a raised ride height, extra bash plates, all-terrain tyres and off-road-ready wheels, the tiny camper even gets an electronic all-wheel drive system to ensure it can venture deep into the bush.
Powering the cute camper is a front-mounted 660cc turbocharged four-cylinder than produces 47kW and 103Nm of torque through either a five-speed manual or CVT transmission.
As well as the world's cutest campervan, Daihatsu will also show off two versions of its Rocky SUV – one with a special silver and blue paint, the other a Crossfield version built for those who spend more time off-road than on.
Finally, there's a passenger version of the Atrai van that's badged 'Premium'. Sporting a white and black paint finish, the Premium gets a full body kit, alloy rims and lower ride height than its camping sibling.
