It looks like something from a movie set. But believe it or not this battle-ready armoured 'spy car' is production-ready, decadently customisable and immensely powerful.
It's the Latvian-built Dartz Prombron Shark, a Mercedes-Benz GL-based military-spec vehicle for the mega-rich 'business' man powered by a choice of biturbo V12 AMG engines offering as much as 1118kW.
The interior can be customised with a humidor, champagne fridge, a signal jammer, explosives detection system or sniper-proof roof, depending on requirement, and with the combination of "German engineering perfection, Soviet military power and Russian imperial opulence", is certain to sate even the most manic of megalomaniac.
Two Vertu mobile phones – included as standard – even allow remote monitoring, just to make sure the vehicle is "clear" before entry.
Once inside owners are secured by a Kevlar-titanium body which is bookended by battering-ram bumpers, a reinforced rear-end and bullet-proof rotating grille. Their identity is concealed by electrochromatic windows while entry is by way of a fingerprint and retina scanner system.
To keep the unwanted out, "anti-papparazzi" electric-shock door handle are available, as is a "special light and sound system" which Dartz says "helps disperse crowds".
Upholstery choices – which no longer include Dartz's ill-famed whale penis leather – extend to the skins of such animals as alligator, crocodile, ostrich, python, shark, sheep and stingray, with Dartz simply stating "we are using bizarre leathers, deal with it". Games consoles, a Bang & Olufsen surround sound system and internet connectivity are of course available.
A "six-zero" price tag ensures a level of exclusivity, and Dartz says it plans to build just 10 Prombron Black Sharks, five of which are already earmarked for China. Just don't call it an SUV...
"For our customer this term degrades the car to a category including farmer's trucks and grocery shopping utility vehicles," insists Dartz founder and owner, Leonard Yankelovich.
"Luxury corporate owned brand releasing their serial-made car on steroids is still a far cry from the values that our brand and products bring to the customer. Our customers already have all common supercars, limousines, but this is the only bespoke product they get as the best of them all."
