Deal hunter: Ford Ranger FX4 discounted

At a time when consumers are complaining about the rapidly escalating prices of new cars, it’s good to know that some models – popular models too – can still be bought at reasonable prices.

Take, for instance, the Ford Ranger FX4 4x4 dual-cab pick-up with 3.2-litre engine and automatic transmission.

This variant of Ford’s widely respected and awarded Ranger ute normally sells for $62,190, but Ford is currently offering the Ranger in this specification for $61,490 drive-away.

So as well as a price that’s $700 lower than the manufacturer’s retail list price, you’re also saving the thousands you would otherwise spend on registration, stamp duty and compulsory third-party insurance.

Perhaps you’re not interested in a one-tonne ute, however. If a medium SUV is more to your liking, how about a Kia Sportage S front-wheel drive automatic?

The Korean brand is running out stock ahead of the arrival of the next-generation Kia Sportage that’s due in October.

Usually priced at $32,490, the base-grade Sportage with auto is currently on offer for $32,290 on the road.

That means you save $200 off the list price, and you save the statutory charges as well. It’s a lot of car for not much money.

Finally, for those wanting a light hatchback, the Suzuki Swift GLX Turbo with automatic is selling for $28,790 on the road.

That’s just $1000 above the manufacturer’s retail list price, but including the on-road costs as well.

Unfortunately, it’s an offer not available to buyers in Queensland and northern New South Wales.
