Deal hunter: Mitsubishi Triton price dropped

Imagine buying a sturdy one-tonne dual-cab 4x4 ute that will go off-road – something like the Mitsubishi Triton – for less than the usual asking price. Now imagine that same vehicle with the on-road costs paid as well.

Imagine no more. That’s the deal currently on offer for the Mitsubishi Triton 4x4 GLX automatic pick-up.

Normally, this variant in the Triton range retails for $42,140, and then the buyer pays the registration, stamp duty and compulsory third-party insurance on top of that.

But this month, buyers can walk into a Mitsubishi showroom, collar the nearest salesperson and tuck $40,890 in their pocket to drive out with a new Triton in this specification.

So you save the on-road costs, and Mitsubishi will also shave $1250 off the margin as well.

But say for the sake of the argument that you want an SUV rather than a dual-cab 4x4.

There’s the Ford Everest Titanium 4WD with 2.0-litre biturbo engine for $73,490 drive-away.

That’s just $300 more than the manufacturer’s retail list price of $73,190, saving buyers in New South Wales nearly $5600 and Victorian buyers nearly $6500 for the statutory charges.

Lastly, there’s the Suzuki Baleno GL with manual transmission. This is the ideal car for drivers who enjoy rowing their own gearshift, but also want a car that’s frugal to run and easy to park. At $19,490 on the road, the Baleno is currently priced just a grand higher than its manufacturer’s retail list price of $18,490. That’s the first year’s registration, stamp duty and compulsory third-party insurance for just $1000.

It’s an ideal first car at that sort of price, or a practical fun car for an older driver.
