Polestar Australia is moving towards a more premium model strategy with its burgeoning EV range, but for now the gloves are well and truly off as it looks to boost sales with heavy discounting of its excellent new 2024 Polestar 2.
As well as slashing $10,000 from its flagship Polestar 2 Long Range Dual Motor, the Swedish brand has also cut $7500 from the more affordable Polestar 2 Long Range Single Motor, which now starts from $71,400 plus on-road costs.
The indicative national drive-away price is $79,764 for the Polestar 2 Long Range Single Motor, with the deal part of an ‘Electrify Australia’ campaign that also extends to the entry-level Standard Range Single Motor (saving $5000) and runs until June 9, 2024.
The Long Range Single Motor was a finalist in the rigorous carsales Car of the Year 2023, impressing the judges and helping the entire Polestar 2 range receive a Highly Commended award.
Competition is also intensifying in the big-volume dual-cab 4x4 ute segment with new models on the horizon, which this week brings the auto-equipped Nissan Navara SL dual-cab 4x4 into focus with a special offer of $49,990 drive-away.
That’s just $140 above the manufacturer’s normal recommended retail list price, which means Nissan is effectively covering the on-road costs such as dealer delivery, stamp duty, registration and compulsory third-party insurance.
The other hot market segment is mid-size SUVs, currently the top-selling category in Australia, and VW is steering buyers towards the MY23 Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace 132TSI Life auto with its latest offer.
The seven-seat Allspace with a 132kW 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, 4MOTION all-wheel drive and plenty of standard equipment in Life trim is currently available from $49,990 drive-away – with a $2000 Factory Bonus Offer on top of this.
That marks a significant saving over the manufacturer’s recommended retail price of $48,890 plus on-road costs.
