There’s no shortage of European SUVs on the market these days, but their European-ness is usually accompanied by higher asking prices than contemporary offerings from Japan, Korea and China.
End of financial year, model year runout and stock clearance deals like the one now being offered on the 2022 Peugeot 5008 GT Sport automatic therefore present consumers with an ideal opportunity to snap themselves up something with a bit of extra sophistication, perceived or otherwise.
For those not up to speed on the current Peugeot range, the 5008 GT Sport is the brand’s entry-level mid-size SUV – think Hyundai Tucson or Toyota RAV4 – and usually retails for $65,657 plus on-road costs.
But at the moment the French SUV can be had from $63,990 drive-away, marking an outright discount of $1667 and the waiving of about $7000 worth of on-road costs depending on where you live, adding up to a total markdown in excess of $8000.
Eight-grand in the current climate is a monumental saving and works out to be a discount of well over 10 per cent compared to the usual drive-away total, and you still get a five-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty.
European SUVs aren’t for everyone though and, in Australia at least, there’s still big demand for hot hatches.
The Volkswagen Golf GTI was arguably the first of its genre and the iconic nameplate is still going strong today, even though the current Mk8 version is positioned at the higher end of the mainstream pricing spectrum.
The good news, however, is that VW is waiving the 2023 Volkswagen Golf GTI automatic’s on-road costs at the moment, meaning the oldest nameplate in hot hatch history can currently be had from $55,490 drive-away.
It also means the penultimate Golf variant now undercuts the lauded Hyundai i30 N Premium DCT by at least a couple of grand once it’s parked on your driveway.
However, hot hatches aren’t much chop for carrying big payloads, towing heavy trailers or heading off-road – unlike a dual-cab 4x4 ute that’s made specifically for those three roles.
One of the cheapest dual-cabs on the market at the moment is the 2023 LDV T60 Max Pro 4x4 manual and now it’s been made even cheaper – so long as you have an ABN number.
If you do, the drive-away price drops from $38,990 (ABN only) to $36,990, marking a tidy little discount of $2000.
