In the 12 years since its inception, the Deniliquin Ute Muster has gone from strength-to-strength, growing to become an icon of Australia's rural social calendar and readily drawing a 20,000 strong pilgrimage from far across the land Down Under.
The not-for-profit event is held annually on the NSW Labour Day long weekend, providing a much-needed economic boost to the local region, while also buoying the spirits of hard-working country folk. Last year, the Deni Ute Muster generated around $11M of spending in and around the region, while also providing direct support to over 25 community organisations.
"This is a win-win for everyone concerned," explains festival director, John Harvie. "We would not be able to run the Muster if it wasn't for these organisations and in turn we pay them an hourly rate for their manpower. This is a major revenue earner for many of these groups annually and I know there is a positive flow on effect within the community due to this."
Set amid the quintessentially Australian landscape of the NSW Southern Riverina, among the flattest open plains on earth, the Muster site includes a huge family camping area that caters for all utes large and small – or any other vehicle should you be of the persuasion – and offers loads of family entertainment, RAAF Roulettes fly-overs, and a massive open-air concert with headline acts that this year includes the legendary Cold Chisel in their only major Australian performance this year.
"This is a major coup for us," said Harvie. "What a perfect fit for our festival, Cold Chisel is one of our great Aussie icons. There is no doubt this will go down as one of the biggest parties in Oz for 2010."
The main stage will also play host to a number of Aussie acts, some of whom include Lee Kernaghan, Kasey Chambers, John Williamson, James Reyne, The Pigs and Tori Darke. The day stage will play host to Cory Hargreaves, Marcus Meier, Lacey Gage, and plenty more besides.
With tickets selling at the rate of 300 per day, the organisers recommend getting in quick to avoid disappointment. Tickets are available through all Sanity music stores or online at DeniUteMuster.com.au.
The Deniliquin Ute Muster runs from Friday 1 October - Saturday 2 October 2010.
