Denza has added a premium electric people mover to its growing local line-up, with the luxurious D9 seven-seater now on offer in a choice of two variants, the lesser priced from $85,990 before on-road costs.

The better-equipped and more powerful range-topper has an all-wheel drive (AWD) powertrain and is priced from $95,990.
Both variants are exclusively electric-only and feature a 103kWh lithium-ion battery, with the FWD’s singular e-motor outputting 230kW/360Nm compared to the AWD’s (dual-motor) 275kW/470Nm.
Construction of the battery is BYD’s ‘Blade’ type design which is unique and offers advantages to longevity and safety, thanks to a more effective thermal management system and structural strength.
The large battery offers respectable single-charge claimed range with the AWD going up to 480km, while the more efficient FWD is said to be capable of up to 520km.

That said, the AWD is the performance hero of the D9 range with a 0-100km/h figure of 6.9s.
Like the B5 and B8 SUV siblings, the people mover offers vehicle-to-load (V2L) power, enabling electrical items to be powered by the battery when out and about.
It can also be recharged at up to 200kW on DC power thanks to an 800-volt electrical system.
The D9’s real party piece, however, is its large and luxurious seven-seat interior.
The front row offers a host of comfort and premium enhancing features such as Nappa leather, a 15.6-inch central touchscreen, 10.3-inch digital instrument cluster, 12-inch head-up display, all-electric seat adjustment and a central storage box that can cool to minus six degrees (Celsius) or heat to 50 degrees.

Regardless of the variant, the D9 gets a pair of captain’s chairs in the second row for maximum comfort. The individual seats have their own electric adjustment, massage, heating, ventilation and power leg rests, all controlled from a 5.5-inch touchscreen incorporated into the armrest.
In the third row, passengers are three abreast with a few comforts such as USB power and air vents.
If the rear seats are folded, the D9 can accommodate up to 2310 litres of cargo and, even with all seven seats in place, offers a 410-litre boot.
Opting for the AWD not only nets the higher performance and traction, it also brings Denza’s DiSus-C adaptive dampers for increased comfort and body control.

The D9 isn’t expected to move the sales needle dramatically for Denza, with the majority of attention likely to be on the pioneering B5 and B8 plug-in hybrid SUVs.
However, the company is expecting to find a niche audience in luxury airport and limousine transport fleets as well as large families looking to ferry everyone under one luxurious roof.
“We’re introducing a new standard of practical luxury,” said Denza Australia chief operating officer Mark Harland.
“The Denza D9 offers all occupants first-class comfort, advanced technology, and everyday usability without compromise.”
