Designer of 1960s Batmobile passes away

George Barris, iconic custom car builder and creator of TV's Batmobile, has reportedly died at age 89

He was the creator of the one-and-only muscle-car era Batmobile and numerous other memorable vehicles that featured on TV and movies, and he was a legend in the Los Angeles car culture.

But now, George Barris has reportedly passed away after his son Brett made a private post on Facebook that is circulating around a number of outlets.

The post reads:
"Sorry to have to post that my father, legendary kustom car king George Barris, has moved to the bigger garage in the sky. He passed on peacefully in his sleep at 2:45 am. He was surrounded by his family in the comfort of his home. He lived his life they [sic] way he wanted til the end."

Known as the "original' King of Kustomisers" according to his website, Barris was also the creator of vehicles such as KITT from 'Knight Rider' and both the custom cars in 'The Munsters'. In his personal collection of star-studded cars were the General Lee from 'The Dukes of Hazzard', the Green Hornet and the Monkee Mobile.

He was 89.
