Desktop engines to drool over

These quarter-scale, fully-operational engines made in the US have easily shot to the top of the office wish list.

The family-owned Replica Engines – appropriately enough, based in Gulliver, Michigan – makes quarter-scale “desktop” engines that actually work. And just about everyone in the Wheels office wants one … badly.

Latest offering is a 62.7cc (3.8ci) replica of an Oldsmobile Aurora V8 built for the 1997 Indy Racing League series (pictured). Like all the engines the company builds, attention to detail is phenomenal and everything’s fully functional. The aluminium-block V8 uses mechanical fuel injection and runs on methanol.
