Detroit Electric, an old brand name revived, will begin selling cars in global markets from early next year.
In a press release issued late last week, the company revealed its new brand identity and hinted at the shape of its SP:01 electric sports car in a teaser video, despite a pre-production car being revealed in full something like 18 months ago. A screen capture taken from the video is published here. In revealing the new corporate logo and announcing a formal website to be rolled out from the end of this month, the company has effectively rebranded itself even before it sells its first car. Albert Lam, company CEO, was quoted in the press release explaining why.
"This new creative direction reflects Detroit Electric's passion to deliver premium, design-driven products," he said. "We are proud to identify with the original Detroit Electric company's history and look forward to enhancing the core values of this historic brand through innovation, pioneering spirit and performance.
"The new corporate identity has modernised the brand's image to ensure it is fit for today's rapidly evolving market, while preserving some of the magic and heritage of the original Detroit Electric brand."
The SP:01 is scheduled to launch around the world from early next year. It will be built in the UK, despite the company headquarters being based in Detroit, with a regional office located in the Netherlands.
