DETROIT MOTOR SHOW: Galpin Rocket Mustang will be made
Former BMW and Aston designer's take on big coupe heading for limited productionUS car maker VLF Automotive has announced it will reveal a production version of the Galpin Rocket at the Detroit motor show this week.
Originally, the reimagined Ford Mustang concept was revealed back in 2014 at the Los Angeles auto show but, until now, a production version has yet to surface.
Designed by former BMW and Aston Martin designer, Henrik Fisker, the Rocket has bespoke carbon-fibre bodywork in place of its steel body panels.
Confirmed to on sale later this year, under the bonnet, the Rocket gains the show car's supercharged V8 that was claimed to produce more than 530kW.
To cope with the extra power the modified fast Ford coupe gets adjustable sports suspension and the option of larger brakes. Buyers can choose between a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic.
Inside, there's a bespoke leather-trimmed interior and a new carbon-fibre dash.
Building the Galpin Rocket will be Michigan-based VLF Automotive that was founded by former GM boss, Bob Lutz.
VLF has not confirmed how many cars it plans to make but says the Rocket will cost from US $120,000 (A$165,000) including the cost of the base Mustang.
