DETROIT MOTOR SHOW: Lexus LF-Lc concept leaked

America's Road & Track magazine steals Lexus' thunder by revealing swoopy coupe concept almost three weeks ahead of schedule

Lexus has been milking its teaser campaign for the LF-Lc (as it’s being referred to) concept for all it’s worth prior to its Detroit show unveiling next month, but now American magazine Road & Track has rained on their parade by leaking this pixelated image of the car in all its glory.

As yet, there is virtually no information available about the concept, but some sources have suggested it was conceived as a riposte to Acura’s new-age NSX Concept, which will also be wheeled out at the Detroit show.

From what we can glean from this image, the LF-Lc retains the front-mid-engine layout of its LFA sibling, but it’s not known exactly what powerplant resides under the slinky coupe’s long snout.

Lexus had earlier said the concept would showcase a new design direction, but it seemingly retains many of the styling elements from the LFA and the LF-Gh concept that eventually formed the basis of latest-gen GS sedan.

The LF-Lc was penned at Toyota/Lexus’ Calty design studio in Newport Beach, California and it’s certainly more aggressive in execution than even the angry looking LFA.

The teaser shot of the interior released a few days ago indicated the cabin is an extension of the exterior in terms of its flowing design theme, and the body colour appears to feature on the doors and centre console.

That’s about all we know for now. We’ll be able to tell you more following the car’s unveiling on January 9. Stay tuned…

STOP PRESS: Lexus has officially released a photo of the LF-LC in response to the original leak. The vehicle is shown in side profile. Mark Templin, Lexus Group Vice President and General Manager was quoted in a press release accompanying the image.

“Crafted from a clean sheet of paper at the request of Lexus headquarters in Japan, the LF-LC blends both high technology and organic shapes to connect the driver to the machine. The clean lines of the vehicle emphasize motion, creating a distinctive look for this futuristic sport coupe.”
