DETROIT MOTOR SHOW: New Infiniti Q60 breaks cover

Third-generation Q60 sports coupe given twin-turbo six-pot

Nissan’s premium brand Infiniti has unveiled its third-generation Q60 Coupe at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

It debuts a new twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 engine from the VR engine family, available in two tunes, at least in its core North American market. They produce 224kW and 300kW respectively.

It’s not clear whether the mooted atmospheric six-pot, V8 and hybrid powertrains will be included, or when.

Nissan Motor Company president and CEO Carlos Ghosn said of the Q60: “As the third-generation version of Infiniti’s iconic sports coupe, the new Q60 builds on Infiniti’s brand heritage and history of technology leadership. It reinforces Infiniti’s reputation for performance, elegance and driver-focused design."

Optional Dynamic Digital Suspension allows ‘crisp handling response and superior ride comfort’ while the rear-drive platform brings ‘emphatic dynamic response’

Infiniti’s second-generation Direct Adaptive Steering – an acquired taste, in our experience – can be tuned for response via the Q60’s Drive Mode Selector.

The Q60 was joined in Detroit by an upgraded Q50 sports sedan and QX60 crossover.

We can expect the Q50 in Australia in the second half of 2016, with the Q60 to follow before year end, though there’s no word on the QX60 seeing these shores.

Infiniti sold a record 215,250 vehicles globally last year.
