DETROIT MOTOR SHOW: Porsche unveils two new models

Porsche 911 Targa 4 GTS and Cayenne Turbo S revealed in Detroit, Australian pricing confirmed

Porsche has ripped the covers off two new model variants at the NAIAS in Detroit overnight.

The 911 Targa 4 GTS and Cayenne Turbo S both made their world premiere, the former offering 316kW of power in Porsche's classic Targa body, the latter adding a re-engineered 4.8-litre biturbo V8, now with an impressive 419kW.
Porsche says the 911 Targa 4 GTS will go on sale in Australia from the second quarter of this year, and will be priced from $305,300 (plus on-road costs). And like the model on show in Detroit, the locally-delivered Targa 4 GTS will feature the Sports Chrono package as standard, as well as other GTS-specific items such as wider centre-lock 20-inch matt black alloy wheels, PSAM chassis, sports exhaust, a sports design fascia, black air intakes, flared wheel arches and the obligatory GTS logos on the doors, on the rear-end and on the rollover bar.
The interior is differentiated by a black Alcantara steering wheel rim and seats. Trim accents are highlighted in black brushed aluminium that Porsche says adds to the model's "hard core sports character".
Arriving in time to celebrate the 911 Targa's 50th anniversary the 911 Targa 4 GTS boasts an improved power-to-weight ratio of 3.6kg/hp (down from 3.9 in the Targa 4S), a top speed of over 300km/h (with PDK transmission option) and a 0-100km/h time of 4.3sec. Fuel economy is listed at 9.2L/100km (combined) on PDK variants – matching the less powerful (-22kW) 911 Targa 4S.
At the other side of the stage, the Cayenne Turbo S brings even more power and torque to Porsche's full-size SUV. A redesigned biturbo V8 engine now integrates the turbochargers within the exhaust manifolds, increasing power to 419kW (+37) over the standard Turbo variant and 15kW more than the previous Turbo S.
A torque increase of 50Nm takes the peak output to 800Nm, while chassis tweaks are said to "maximise driving dynamics", the Cayenne Turbo S lapping the infamous North Loop of the Nürburgring in 7min 59.74 secs. 0-100km/h times fall 0.4sec to 4.1, while top speed is rated at 284km/h.
Also available in Australia in the second quarter of 2015, the Cayenne Turbo S will be priced from $284,700 (plus ORCs). The local-spec will include items such as 10-piston/420 mm Porsche Composite Ceramic Brake rotors (four-piston/370mm at the rear), Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control, Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus and Porsche Traction Management.

The Cayenne Turbo S rides on 21-inch alloy wheels, includes LED headlights with Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus, a full-leather interior in a black/crème combination, high-gloss black accents in the air inlet surround and with Porsche's optional sports exhaust system.
