Volkswagen has announced it will reveal a stretched version of its Tiguan SUV at the Detroit motor show next month.
Based on the same MQB platform as the regular version of VW’s new-generation SUV, the Tiguan Allspace grows in length by 22cm and sits on a wheelbase that is some 11cm longer.
This enables not only more legroom in the rear seats, but also a bigger boot and the option of a third row of seats.
Under the bonnet, the long-wheelbase Tiguan is expected to come with the 1.4 turbo and 2.0-litre petrol turbo TSI engines, as well as the larger 2.0-litre diesel used in the current model.
The Allspace is also expected to come with both front-drive and Volkswagen’s 4Motion all-wheel drive.
It has also been confirmed the long-wheelbase Tiguan is destined for Australia, as well as other right hand drive markets such as the U.K.
It was confirmed from the outset for North America, China and Europe.
