Diesel may be the flavour of the month among Australia's car importers but Ford Australia isn't yet convinced it should be taking a sip.
In Sydney last week, Ford Australia boss Tom Gorman (pictured) said the car-maker hadn't yet decided if it would build and market a diesel-engined Territory.
"The discussion around [putting a diesel engine into] Territory clearly continues, as we evaluate if we can make business sense out of it," he said.
Mr Gorman also said he believed petrol prices would continue to be volatile but would fall in the short term.
"I'm no smarter than the next guy on this," he said, “but my view is we'll continue to have volatility. It's a commodity that comes from some of the most dangerous and politically unstable places in the world, so I think we’re going to continue to see volatility in oil prices. But our view is that you're going to see oil prices coming down in the future."
Mr Gorman said fuel prices had been "a big issue" when they recently topped $1.30, but prices already had begun to fall.
