Chery Australia has doubled the size of its flagship Tiggo 9 range with the introduction of the new $52,990 Elite FWD which trades some equipment and firepower for a lower asking price.

The reduced outputs compared to the Ultimate AWD are due to a reduced number of e-motors: two vs three – the Elite FWD ditches the Ultimate’s rear motor and features a smaller 19kWh (vs 34kWh) battery pack.
Naturally, that means the Elite can’t go as far on a full charge (90km vs 170km) but its superior efficiency means it can still supposedly match the Ultimate’s 1250km maximum fuel range.
Chery expects the front-drive configuration to “appeal to a wider range of Australian buyers, particularly those prioritising urban driving, comfort, and value”, however the lower asking price has also been achieved via a more modest equipment list.

Example? The Elite rolls on 19-inch alloys instead of 20s, sports leatherette upholstery instead of genuine leather, doesn’t have ventilated seats and misses out on a heated steering wheel.
Other spec highlights include a 360-degree camera, power-adjustable front seats, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, 15.6-inch infotainment system, an eight-speaker Sony sound system, sat-nav, smartphone mirroring, a 50W wireless phone charger, selectable ambient lighting, puddle lights, sliding and tilting panoramic sunroof, powered tailgate and LED exterior lighting.
This is the second Tiggo 9 variant to be brought Down Under as Chery eyes a rapid expansion of both its model range and an ever-increasing number of sub-brands and spin-offs.
The Tiggo 9 Elite FWD will arrive in showrooms early next month.
