If you’ve ever wondered whether your car says something about your personality, you might want to strap in for this one – particularly if you drive a BMW.
A recent study by Scrap Car Comparison in the UK has revealed some fascinating (and slightly concerning) findings about how the car you drive could reflect your personality; particularly when it comes to narcissistic traits.
Those traits include having an inflated sense of self-importance, a lack of empathy, and/or a need for attention, among others.
To gather the results, the UK firm surveyed over 2000 drivers and asked them to complete a ‘narcissism test’. And the results show that certain car brands rank much higher on the narcissism scale than others.

BMW drivers topped the list, with an average ‘narcissism score’ of 14.4 out of 40 – well above the national average of 10.46. Mercedes-Benz came in second, followed by Honda and Audi drivers.
That’s a strong representation from luxury European brands, but special mention goes to the remainder of the top 10, which consisted mostly of more mainstream brands, including Fiat, Toyota, Hyundai, Ford, Mazda, and Vauxhall.
Interestingly though, the study didn’t just focus on brands.
When separated by ‘fuel type’, electric car owners were also found to exhibit narcissistic tendencies, with an average score of 14.18 out of 40.

Maybe the eco-friendly crowd has more than just a love for saving the planet?
Those with personalised number plates also came under the microscope and scored a whopping 15.22 on the narcissism test, almost double that of drivers with standard plates. Talk about making a statement!
But before you go judging that BMW driver weaving through traffic or that Tesla owner flaunting their custom plates, remember, we could all use a little more self-awareness.
After all, it’s not about the car you drive – it’s how you drive it.
