The 2006 NGK Rally of Melbourne ceremonial start will be staged at Docklands for the first time this September.
Scheduled for 6pm on September 22, the start will give crowds a close-up look at the country's top gravel rally cars before they are unleashed on the Yarra Valley.
Over 60 rally cars and drivers are expected to be on display along Dockland's NewQuay Promenade. Sponsored by NGK, the September 22-24 Rally of Melbourne is the final event of the 2006 NEC Australian Rally Championship.
"NewQuay is a fantastic location to stage the start of this year's rally, it has already become an icon of Melbourne and the perfect place to stage a major sporting spectacle like this," said NGK Rally of Melbourne Event Organiser, Justin Hunt.
"This event is for the Melbourne people, and what better place to start it than a fresh new location that showcases all that Melbourne has to offer," he said.
Melbourne's Yarra Valley will host the special stage action. In all, the field will contest 16 special stages including the popular De Bortoli Winery super special stages near Yarra Glen.
