Dodge has revealed the fifth member of its ‘Last Call’ Charger and Challenger send-off series in the form of the 2023 Dodge Charger King Daytona – easily the most powerful Last Call model so far.
Based on the already savage Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody, the King Daytona’s supercharged 6.2-litre HEMI V8 is good for 603kW/958Nm – 7kW more than standard – which according to Dodge makes the final Charger muscle car the world’s fastest and most powerful production sedan.
The extra firepower is complemented by a vivid ‘Go Mango’ paint job, satin black decals, 20-inch wheels, orange six-piston Brembo brakes, Nappa leather and Alcantara seat upholstery, bespoke badging inside and out, orange interior stitching, suede headliner, carbon-fibre trim, an Alcantara steering wheel, Harman/Kardon premium audio system, navigation and a powered sunroof.
All of these mechanical and cosmetic goodies are designed to pay tribute to a modified Charger owned and raced by William ‘Big Willie’ Robinson, who dominated the US drag racing scene in the 1960s and ’70s but also served as a beacon for sensible road behaviour by encouraging racers to stay on track and away from public roads.
Just 300 examples of the Charger King Daytona are being made as part of the Last Call series, which has been gradually ramping up in terms of performance and attitude.
We expect the final model of the series to be an even hotter derivative of the ballistic Dodge Challenger Demon.
“The special-edition Dodge Charger King Daytona honours a true icon of muscle car history,” said Dodge CEO Tim Kuniskis.
“The final Dodge ‘Last Call’ models will continue to celebrate the legacy of the Dodge Charger and Challenger by paying tribute to two vehicles that hold a special place in our brand’s history.”
These final two vehicles will be revealed on September 21 and November 1 respectively, the latter as part of a real-world public debut at the 2022 SEMA Show.
