Just a day after US car maker Dodge released another teaser for its Dodge Challenger SRT Demon, Hollywood movie star, Vin Diesel, has accidentally given us a glimpse of an undisguised production car.
The appearance of two silver Demons will ruin a carefully planned three-month teasing campaign for Dodge's wild muscle car, ahead of its official launch in New York during January.
Eagle-eyed viewers identified the new car by its small Demon logo on the front wing. From the video it's clear that some of the 90-100kg weight-saving revealed yesterday will come from a carbon-fibre bonnet, roof and boot lid.
The black rims, meanwhile, are also thought to feature the lightweight material.
It's also clear the Demon will come with wider wheel arches to accommodate a big increase in the front and rear track.
Under the bonnet, the Demon is expected to at least match the Hellcat’s insane 527kW/880Nm outputs but will outperform the Hellcat's 3.6 second 0-100km/h, thanks to a better power-to-weight ratio.
Some rumours even suggest the final swansong for the current generation Challenger will come fitted with the SRT Viper’s 8.4-litre V10 engine tuned to deliver more than 550kW/1000Nm.
Since the Dodge Hellcat is priced at around $US60,000, it’s thought the Demon will sell for around $US80,000 there.
Lack of right-hand drive means the Demon is automatically ruled out for the Australian market.
Instead, we have to hope FCA Australia’s plans to import the next-generation Challenger and Charger vehicles Down Under come to fruition after those cars go on sale in 2018.
