MOPAR winds Hellcat V8 up to 660kW

Official upgrades boost supercharged V8 to an astonishing 660kW without voiding the warranty

Chrysler and Dodge might be dead Down Under, but for those unhinged owners who think their Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat doesn't produce enough power already, the US car-maker has released a new range of official aftermarket performance parts that boost power even more.

Now available under Dodge's new MOPAR Direct Connection sub-brand, the upgrades mirror a similar program that was introduced back in 1974 and aim to offer customers factory-built, factory-tested and factory-backed high-performance upgrades.

This means if you buy and fit them to your new Charger, Challenger or Durango, Dodge will continue to honour the standard factory warranty – which in the US is three years or 50,000km for the car and five years or 100,000km for the powertrain.

And in news that will make many Australians weep, that includes coverage of everything from non-road-legal drag racing parts to official ECU tunes, and even a Stage 1 engine tune for the Red Eye's supercharged 6.2-litre.

The latter raise total power of the Red Eye's V8 from 594kW/959Nm to an incredible 660kW and 1067Nm of torque. Yes, the US car-maker has confirmed that in the event of a failure related to the engine or additional factory parts, it will cover the loss.

According to Dodge, to extract the monumental increase in power over the standard Redeye, and even the race-ready Challenger SRT Demon (603kW/972Nm), the Dodge needs little more than an ECU tune and a Hellephant supercharger pulley.

Similar upgrades are also offered for the lesser Hellcat V8, raising outputs from 527kW/880Nm to a very healthy 565kW/944kW.

No acceleration or performance claims have been offered for the new kits, but Dodge says all add-ons have been certified to comply with US emission regulations.

Full pricing will be released before the official power upgrades go on sale in March.
