Dodge teases more powerful 2019 Challenger Hellcat
Wild muscle-car grows a pair of classic dual-snorkel air intakes; Hellcat set to get even more powerDodge has begun teasing its 2019 Challenger SRT Hellcat with the release of two new images that reveal that the updated muscle-coupe will come equipped with two large snorkel-style cold-air bonnet vents.
Paying homage to 1970s Challenger R/T 440 and Plymouth Barracuda, the US car-maker says the new intakes are both fully functional and necessary to feed the huge supercharger that forces air into the 6.2-litre V8's combustion chambers.
Rumoured to borrow parts from the borderline certifiable 602kW Challenger SRT Demon (627kW on 100-octane race fuel), the 2019 Hellcat is likely to get a power boost from the current car's 527kW to around 540kW.
That's somewhere off the Demon but, thanks to a new 'drag mode' launch control system, the 0-100km/h time should fall from 3.6 seconds to around three seconds dead.
Apart from the Hellcat's new performance-enhancing parts, expect changes to the rest of the 2019MY Challenger range to be relatively mild before the Challenger is replaced in 2021 by an all-new model based on the same platform as the Maserati Ghibli.
More teases are expected to follow in the lead-up to the unveiling of Dodge's even faster Challenger and Hellcat range in the next couple of months.
