Double loop world record
It's not often that you see cars upside-down, pounded with extreme G-forces but that's what happened in the USA over the weekend...Ken Block may be releasing his new Gymkhana 5 on July 9, 2012, but Hot Wheels has just completed its own insane stunt -- this time performing the world's biggest double loop.
Entitled the 'Double Loop Dare', the stunt was set up at the 2012 X Games in Los Angeles on June 30 and saw two drivers, Greg Tracy and Tanner Foust, break the Guinness World Record for completing the biggest double vertical loop in history.
The only double vertical loop in history?
Tanner Foust is no stranger to hardcore, death-defying stunts, having broken the Guinness World Record for the longest jump in a car, 101 metres. That video was viewed more than 11 million times.
Not exactly the safest driving manoeuvre in the book -- both cars navigate the twin loop simultaneously -- the stunt was capped off with a jump at the end, because clearly there wasn't enough risk to begin with...
It is understood the drivers were slammed with extreme G-forces will upside-down, about seven Gs in total.
There are various theories about why this stunt was attempted, with "because it's cool" and "to sell more Hot Wheels toys" chief among them, but who really cares -- it's been done and it's amazing the cars were able to drive upside down in the manner they did, without crashing or careening out of control.
