Drag Dad to Eastern Creek for Fathers' Day
A day pass to the Muscle Car Masters is the gift he really wantsEastern Creek Raceway is holding the ultimate nostalgia fest for the old bloke in your life on Sunday September 4.
Muscle Car Masters will bring back a flood of memories for car enthusiasts who grew up in the golden age of Australian motor racing. Touring cars from the 1960s right through to the 1990s will be present on the day, with old Jags, Lotus Cortinas and Mustangs, parked alongside V8 Falcons and Commodores, Toranas and Chargers.
A number of the cars will take to the track for a round of the Touring Car Masters event to be held on the day. It's an opportunity to see Mustangs and Camaros duke it out with their Aussie contemporaries, the Monaro and Falcon GT. One of those Falcons, an XB Hardtop will be piloted by the quiet man of Aussie touring cars, Glenn Seton. Seton is looking forward to the event, as he does each year.
"The memories I have as a child are of Geoghegan, Brock, Moffat and Mustangs, Toranas and Falcons - where touring car racing began," Seton says. "I'm also proud that my Dad, Barry, won the 1965 Bathurst 1000."
"I often feel that we have lost the 'sport' in motorsport in the modern era with it becoming more commercialised. Muscle Car Masters showcases how it used to be, when race cars had poor brakes and slid sideways through corners. That's very appealing to me, and obviously to the punters too."
Muscle Car Masters will be a showcase of cars from Australian motor racing history, including Dick Johnson's 1981 XD Falcon and Peter Brock's 87 VL Commodore, both Bathurst winners. And in addition to Glenn Seton, former stars of the touring car firmament attending will include: Allan Moffat, Bob Jane, Bob Morris, Leo Geoghegan, Harry Firth, John Harvey, Colin Bond, Allan Grice, John Goss, Kevin Bartlett, Fred Gibson, John French, Jim Richards, John Bowe, Murray Carter, Phil Brock, Robbie Francevic, Brian Foley, Garry Rogers, Charlie O'Brien, Andrew Miedecke and Bob Holden.
The organisers are offering free parking on the day and free entry to the grandstand. Admission is $40 for adults, $25 concession and children under 12 will be admitted free. For further information, go to www.musclecarmasters.com.au.
