Racing drivers and all the associated risks (and huge salaries) could be a thing of the past if the new Roborace series proves a success.
Confirmed to support the FIA Formula E Championship during the 2016-2017 season, all the Roborace cars will be identical and powered by the same pure-electric powertrain.
The aero is also said to lack adjustment.
Instead, to win the race the team has to rely on programmable artificial intelligence and rely on tactics to win the hour-long races.
The series hopes to field 10 cars when it begins.
Speaking on the announcement of the new zero-emissions driverless race series, Roborace CEO Denis Sverdlov said his new series would be a mixture of “gaming, motorsport, technology and entertainment all rolled into one”.
The series is designed to “provide a competitive platform for the autonomous driving solutions that are now being developed.”
