Aston Martin has revealed the latest addition to its sports car range. And, the Vantage convertible will boast the fastest automatic folding roof on the market, according to the British manufacturer.
The drop-top Aston Martin Vantage Roadster is already available to order in the UK, with deliveries set for the first half of 2020.
Set to sit next to the already-available Aston Martin Vantage Coupe, the new Vantage Roadster is due for Australian deliveries in September.
Pricing is yet to be officially confirmed, however, Aston Martin Australia says we can expect the convertible’s price tag to start at $315,000 – at least $15K more than the Coupe on which it’s based.
Power still comes from a Mercedes-AMG derived 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, delivering 375kW of power and 685Nm of torque exclusively through an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission..
The extra convertible equipment adds another 60kg to the kerb weight of the Vantage Coupe, making it slightly slower to triple figures than its Coupe sibling at a claimed 3.7 seconds.
Standard equipment shared between the two includes adaptive dampers (Roadster gets a bespoke rear damper tune), Dynamic Torque Vectoring and Electronic Rear Differential.
As for the fabric convertible roof, it can be lowered in 6.7 seconds and raised in 6.8 up to speeds of 50km/h via a Z-fold mechanism.
Aston also notes a boot capacity of 200 litres, so “it is possible to stow a full-sized golf bag and accessories”.
“For many, driving with the roof down is the true definition of the sports car experience as it truly brings your sense to life,” said Aston Martin boss, Andy Palmer.
“Vantage has always delivered the purest of thrills, but in Roadster form that adrenaline rush is set to go to next level.”
The manufacturer also says a number of new options will accompany the Roadster’s arrival, including a ‘vane’ grill and a range of new alloy wheel designs and finishes for both the Coupe and Roadster.
A seven-speed manual transmission will also become available for Coupe variants, although timing and pricing is yet to be confirmed.
