Dual-fuel option for Chrysler-Jeep

Dealers are offering a locally-developed LPG system for the Chrysler 300C and Jeep Grand Cherokee

Chrysler offers Australian consumers an alternative fuel system for both the 300C and the Jeep Grand Cherokee. It's called 'diesel'.

But for those who have a set against compression ignition and never carry stuff around in the boot, Chrysler dealers are now offering an after-market dual-fuel petrol/LPG option for the sedan and the offroader.

Developed by Victorian company, Parnell LP Gas Systems, the set-up is a Vapour Sequential Injection (VSI) system and works with either six-cylinder or V8 petrol engines. VSI is described by Parnell as the latest generation of LPG induction technology, overcoming backfiring and lower performance that afflicts cars fitted with older technology systems. Component parts have been sourced from companies in the Netherlands and Japan.

"Like all our kits, it drives really well and you wouldn't know which fuel you're operating on from a driveability viewpoint," said Mark Somers, Parnell's MD.

"The kit places no restriction on air flow in petrol-only mode so there is no loss of power when running petrol -- which means you can have the best of both worlds."

The company is actively working on similar conversion kits for other models in the Chrysler Group range and these will be introduced in the not-to-distant future.
