Porsche will assemble the upcoming four-door Panamera at its Leipzig plant.
Production of the new front-engined V8 gran tourismo (pictured in 'concept' by US magazine, Automobile) will involve substantial expansion of the existing facility. The new car is slated for release in 2009.
The plant, located in former East Germany, produces Porsche’s Cayenne SUV and (until recently) the company’s Carrera GT flagship. Cessation of production of the million-dollar V10 GT occurred this month after more than 1200 were built..
Plans for the Liebzig plant include the construction of a new production hall and extensions of the existing plant. Construction is expected to commence later in 2006 subject to local authority approvals (see image hereabouts).
Engines for the Panamera will be built in Porsche's main plant in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen with the Volkswagen plant in Hanover set to supply painted bodies.
