The all-new 2024 Lotus Emeya Hyper GT has been previewed ahead of its official launch on September 7.
Previously only known by its ‘Type 133’ codename, the Lotus Emeya has been developed by the British sports car-maker as a direct rival for the battery-powered Porsche Taycan.
Releasing teaser images and a new video of the Emeya ahead of its launch next month, Lotus’ all-electric super-sedan will feature a wraparound LED rear light bar, an active rear wing and LED headlights with signatures that ape the bigger Lotus Eletre SUV.
The Emeya is expected to have much in common with the Eletre, including its advanced battery-electric powertrain that in R guise can produce as much as 675kW.
With that level of power, the Lotus sedan will deliver on its Hyper GT name with a 0-100km/h sprint of less than 2.5 seconds.
Like the Eletre, we expect the Emeya to be powered by a big 112kWh battery that will be capable of being topped up at a rate of 420kW while providing for a range of around 450km.
Recharging should be as quick as the very fastest in class, with a 10-80 per cent top-up taking less than 20 minutes.
Beneath the skin it’s thought the Emeya will sit on the same Electric Premium Architecture as the Eletre rather than the bespoke aluminium space-frame underpinning the Polestar 5 four-door GT, which is part of the same Geely Group stable as Lotus.
Like the Lotus SUV, expect the new sedan to feature air suspension, rear-wheel steer, active roll control and active aerodynamics.
Set to be launched late this year in Europe, the Chinese-built Lotus Emeya is expected to join the Eletre by landing in Australia next year.
Lotus has already declared that from 2028 it hopes to sell more than 150,000 cars annually, which sounds very ambitious when you consider that last year it could only shift 567 cars.
