Genesis is continuing to roll out new EVs that are all set to be launched in Australia next year, previewing the world debut of the battery-powered Genesis GV70 that will break cover at the Guangzhou motor show on November 19.
Teased on its social media platforms with images and none-too-subtle references such as “we’re charging toward the future”, the 2022 Genesis GV70 Electrified, as it’s expected to be called, is shown with a revised front-end with closed-off grille and redesigned front fascia.
Much of the design will carry over from the combustion-engined versions of the mid-size luxury SUV, which is priced between $66,400 and $83,400 (plus on-road costs) in Australia and was a 2021 carsales Car of the Year finalist.
It will join the full-electric Genesis GV60 – a coupe-style version of the GV70 that will be available only as an EV – as well as the Genesis G80 Electrified, both of which are already confirmed for Australia early in 2022.
Full details on the Genesis GV70 Electric should be released at its premiere in China, but it’s likely to share plenty with the GV60 and other models such as the related Kia EV6 and Hyundai IONIQ 5 – the car that this week took out the 2021 carsales COTY award.
Expect similar powertrains to those seen on other Hyundai Motor Group EVs, including a dual-motor all-wheel drive flagship good for 270kW/700Nm – as seen on the G80 Electrified large sedan.
Stay tuned for more details as they emerge from the Guangzhou auto show.
