Earlier this week, we saw patent drawings of the incoming new pure-electric 2023 Volvo XC90 ahead of its unveiling later this year.
Now, the talented graphic artists at Kolesa.ru have clearly used these images to create a set of credible digital renderings of the Swedish prestige brand’s new-generation large SUV.
The EV version is expected to be known as the Volvo eXC90, with the fundamental design extending to all other powertrain variants when they become available.
As reported, the current XC90 could be sold alongside the EV model for a limited time.
Based on the patent images and these renders, the new eXC90 has a more streamlined and aggressive aesthetic compared to the current model.
A low drag coefficient will be key to maximising the EV’s driving range, hence the slipperier design, restrained body sculpting and filled-in front fascia.
Combined with a slimmer front lighting signature, Volvo’s flagship SUV looks like it belongs to the (related) Polestar portfolio.
At the rear, the eXC90 renders bring to life the new model’s C-shaped tail-lights and vertical elements flanking the rear window.
Other changes include relocated numberplate mounts, flush-mounted door handles and aerodynamic alloy wheels.
The Polestar connections will run deeper than the styling, too, with the eXC90 to ride on the same Scalable Product Architecture (SPA2) as the inbound Polestar 3 crossover.
The two EVs will also be built at the same US assembly plant in South Carolina.
Single- and dual-motor powertrains will be offered globally, the latter developing around 350kW/680Nm, while some models should have a 600km driving range.
